Change to a solid background

Having a fancy image as your wallpaper slows the system down a little. Not much, but a little.

For some people, "every little bit counts". For others, it's not worth the small performance gain to lose the picture of their cat. It's up to you.

To get started, right-click in a blank area of the desktop and choose "personalize". In the window that pops up, choose "Desktop Background" as illustrated below:

In the next window, look at the "Picture Location" drop-down box. Open it up and choose "Solid Colors" from the bottom.

In here, choose your favorite color, or choose "More..." at the bottom for more choices.

Click [ok] when you're done.
